PULL OUT TESTS BACK ANALYSIS: APPLIED ENGINEERING FOR SOLAR PV

Engineering applied to large utility-scale solar PV plants and PMGD’s in Chile

In the process of development of the solar energy projects, it is important to carry out geotechnical studies that include reports of ramming and load tests (Pull Out Test), for a predetermined type of profile, although many times it is not the definitive one for the tracker or structure to be installed in the solar plant.

For cases in which the type of profile that has been previously tested is not the one finally used and for reasons of timer others a new Pull Out Test survey cannot be carried out, the best option is to perform a Back Analysis Study, an effective methodology that allows to analyze the resistance of the soil and to model certain geotechnical parameters from the results fo the load tests performed.

Geointec offers this engineering service, where field results are extrapolated to the new profile and new loads through re-engineering or back analysis. The target is to validate the results obtained in the first tests stage by performing a recalculation of the new profile and new loads without the need to carry out a new Pull Out Tests campaign in the field. This solution allows the manufacturer to save time and resources and go on with the planning of the project.

Geointec has recently carried out this type of re-engineering in two PMGD-type projects in Chile with positive results.
