Hydrological studies and preliminary hydraulics are important to determine the feasibility and costs of civil works.
In order to meet the needs and requirements of our customers, GEOINTEC has expanded the portfolio of services, offering more options and solutions in the geotechnical area. We refer to those related to the analysis of the risk associated with the soil for solar farms, wind farms and civil works projects.
Our current portfolio of services includes now Hydrological and Preliminary Hydraulic Studies, which are oriented to determine the risks of flooding in a plot, the overflow of rivers, the problems of erodibility of a certain area and the suggestion for preliminary drainage recommendations.
Hydrological studies
Hydrological studies include, among others, orography description, analysis of precipitation of the area, definition of basins, external, interior and flood watersheds, vegetation, as well as estimation of the runoff coefficient. All these parameters are necessary for the calculation of flood flows for different periods of return. With all this information we achieve a precise characterization of the area in order to obtain the results that will help us to propose preventive and corrective measures in the long term.
It is important to keep in mind that whenever we have near our construction area a river, a stream, intermittent courses of water (dry streams) or a mountainous system, it is necessary to carry out this type of studies, since it will help us to avoid possible risks of flood.
Preliminary hydraulics
Once the hydrological analysis of a certain area has been carried out GEOINTEC elaborates a Preliminary hydraulic report with a proposal of general design elements. This proposal includes which are the most appropriate drainage recommendations to be used in the construction area (artificial channels, pipes, drains, etc.).
In the case of countries such as Honduras, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, among others, in which the solar resource is very high, this type of studies are especially necessary because they determine the technical and economic viability of the future construction.
Experience
Since 2014 GEOINTEC has been accumulating experience in the realization of multiple hydrological studies as well as preliminary hydraulics reports for photovoltaic projects, among others. These studies have been carried out work in different locations in Spain as well as in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Honduras, Panama, Namibia and other countries.
